Rookie driver Nathan Nicholson is switching teams for the last four rounds of the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Cup season. The 18-year-old MX-5 Cup Shootout runner-up, National Spec MX-5 points champion, and Regional Spec Miata champion will be driving for Advanced Autosports at VIR and Road Atlanta. Having had success at the Spec MX-5 level, both the team and driver will be looking to bring that experience to the next level by creating a winning package in MX-5 Cup.
As one of the premier Spec Miata and Spec MX-5 builders, Advanced Autosports is incredibly familiar with Mazda racing and what it takes to give drivers the tools needed for success in a spec series. Having proven they can be successful in MX-5 Cup with their one off showing at Mid-Ohio, they will be looking to pick up where they left off as the series heads to VIR this week, a track that Nicholson is very familiar with.
Nicholson is looking forward to a new opportunity and hoping to generate momentum that both himself and the team can carry over into next season. He expressed his enthusiasm saying, “The team has earned a reputation as a strong competitor throughout the Mazda ranks. Even with the stiff competition of the established teams, I believe that we can shake things up and catch a few people off guard.” Given his familiarity with the Advanced team after a successful partnership last year in Spec MX-5, Nicholson has a good feeling about what the rest of the season will bring.
Nicholson and the Advanced crew are looking to take this opportunity and turn it into something special. Building a program in a series as competitive as MX-5 Cup is never easy, but everyone involved is ready to give it their all in order to reach their goals.
