Mobile, AL- Frankie Barroso is set to join Spark Performance for the season opener at Daytona, and for the rest of the 2026 Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented Michelin season.
The 22-year old Miami Springs native comes to the team with four starts in the series, including most recently, the non-points oval race at Martinsville Speedway, last October. Barroso brings with him plenty of on-track experience, utilizing the Mazda platform to climb the latter into pro-racing.
Frankie has five years of experience racing in Spec Miata, and another year of Spec MX-5 racing. Barroso is a back-to-back FARA Pro Spec Miata Champion for 2024 and 2025, and also brought home the title in the 2025 SCCA Hoosier Super Tour.
“I’m excited to be joining Spark Performance,” said Barroso.
“Spark Performance has all the tools for anybody to be successful in the MX-5 Cup Series with a proven track record. For them to give me the opportunity to show all that I’m capable of means a lot to myself, my family and my partners.”
Barroso will be joined by Spark Performance and series veterans Alex Bachoura and Grant West, who also return to the series.
“We’re excited for Frankie to run with us in 2026,” said Team Owner Nathaniel “Sparky” Sparks.
“It’s always exciting when we get to work with a driver who is new to the series. We’re fortunate that Frankie has some seat-time under his belt for this series, so he’s familiar with how competitive it is. It will be a fun year with him, Alex and Grant.”
Spark Performance kicks off the season at Daytona International Speedway as a part of the weekend’s Rolex 24-Hours of Daytona festivities.
